Background

Established in 1964 and named after Berl Katzenelson, the Ohalo College is an Academic Institute for Education, Sciences and Sports. The College was originally situated near Kibbutz Kvutzat Kinneret, and founded as a leading institution that specializes in teachers' and kindergarten teachers' training in the north of Israel, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and the Center of Education and Culture of the Histadrut. The College is located in the heart of one of Israel's most magnificent natural reserves; it is situated between the hills, fields and streams of the north, in the town of Katzrin in the Golan Heights.

In light of Ohalo's unique location in Israel's northern periphery, and due to considerable gaps between the geographic and socio-economic periphery and the central district of the country, the College underwent a significant change in recent years; it redefined the teacher's role in the education system as well as the school's function and classroom activities. Following this development, the College decided to update its teaching methods and adapt itself as well as the curriculum to meet the changing educational needs of the 21st century. We have adapted to an era where advanced technology plays an active and crucial part in education and current teaching processes and has the power to reduce existing gaps through new instructional practices and innovative teaching methods.

Today, Ohalo is coping with the core task of the educational system in Israel - developing a relevant educational leadership which will successfully handle the future tasks of Israeli society. Such leadership will be able to attract the minds of Israeli children in the context of today's changing reality.
