Ohalo aims to shape a new generation of high quality teachers who will become a "spearhead" of relevant, future-oriented and value-committed teaching in Israel, with a special emphasis on the northern region.  The college guides and nurtures tomorrow's leading educators so they will inspire and lead the next generation towards becoming contributing members of society: active, productive and innovative participants in tomorrow's economy, in a dynamic global reality and an ever-changing world of knowledge. We strive to develop and promote the surrounding regions and turn them into thriving modern economic centers, as part of Israel's global operation.

Importantly, today's teachers are faced with the challenges of bestowing their students with (in addition to knowledge of basic subjects) the skills and tools to help them be creative and innovative and contend with the challenges of life. They will need to help students develop their inter-personal communication and teamwork, creativity, aptitude to problem solving, flexibility and adaptability, self-management, self-development and systems thinking. Through the many courses that deal with leadership and means of leading educational change within the formal and informal educational systems, we are training our students to become the best educational leaders of the 21st century. At the same time, the college recognizes the importance of communicating with the heterogeneous population of the northern periphery (secular, religious and Haredi Israelis, Bedouin, Druze, Christians, Muslims, new immigrants and others) in order to create sensitive multi-cultural layouts.

Ohalo leads the way for other academic institutions specializing in teachers' training, in developing 21st century pedagogy, while effectively integrating and utilizing advanced technology. 

The College has developed a state-of–the-art academic center and an educational model designed to train Teacher Cadets as the teachers of tomorrow, through a 3-year process. The core of the model is Problem to Project Based Education (P2PBE) which includes 8 stages and integrates renowned learning practices. The process begins by defining a problem and concludes in the successful application of the learning product – the project.

Dynamic Learning Environment: Together with the American company Steelcase Education, we have redesigned four classrooms in order to enable the successful application of the dynamic learning model described above. The illustration below details the model's different stages and the designated learning spaces, including tables and chairs, technological devices and all other accessories required for a dynamic learning experience. Such spaces enable quick transitions from independent, individual learning to joint, group learning.



Innovative Pedagogy

The Dynamic Ohalo Education Solutions (DOES) team has developed a unique learning process called "Problem to Project Based Education" (P2PBE). It is an eight-step model that combines well-known and familiar learning and working methods. The model includes movement on two main axes: the horizontal axis where the students move from self-work to teamwork and the vertical axis where the students are requested to move within the framework of their learning from individual outcomes to shared outcomes. This model re-defines the role of the teacher and adapts it to the reality of the 21st century.





Adapted Learning Spaces

The implementation of the described dynamic learning model requires a redesign of the learning spaces, which were planned and designed to provide our teachers the tools to motivate their students through dynamic and engaging learning experience.

Cutting-Edge Technology

Our learning spaces are equipped with the latest educational technology, including Media:Scape, smart-boards, laptop computers, Einstein tablets, flat-screen displays etc.




Ohalo introduced a new learning space, where 5 standard classrooms were joined to form a unique 300 square meters learning environment.  The large site includes various learning spaces which enable and facilitate the P2PBE processes, as all 8 stages take place in a single space, through an ongoing learning experience. The professors can use the different facilities according to their needs and objectives:

  • Frontal teaching space, suitable for problem definition and project presentation

  • Technologically equipped space, with devices designed to efficiently deliver knowledge and information

  • Designated space for group discussions, problem solving and project planning

  • Designated space for small groups, suitable for approval and confirmation stages

  • Dynamic learning spaces, suitable for independent learning or guided group sessions

  • Quiet space, where professors can hold short meetings or talk to their students.


Ohalo is working on a unique Learning Environment for teacher trainees specializing in science education.

The Biophilic space includes different aspects of nature, such as fish ponds, trees, a greenhouse, an area to grow insects and reptiles, and water stream which runs through it. All this is inside an ecological, transparent building, which has temperature and humidity control systems. Learners are able to experience the different natural processes in real time and during long periods, instead of just reading about them from a book, or listening to a 60 minute presentation. Technology is applied to measure and monitor natural processes and interferences, and students are able to follow the changes that occur during the four seasons, to measure processes and to compare them with those of other students or with previous years.
